Driving a dream

Okay, so in the April 2007 issue of Car and Driver they compare the new 2008 Audi R8 to the Porsche 911. Uh…for me, the Audi R8 is hands down the winner and I haven't even driven it yet.

It looks like in a head to head test Car and Driver agrees the R8 is in their words, "…a unique realization for the carmaker's art, with everything you'd expect in a 21st -century sports car." At 420 horsepower and an estimated price of $110,000+, it should be.

Phone Scam ALERT for VISA cardholders

visa_card According to the recent EBSCO survey promotion, I found that many people were interested in hearing about general Internet scams and Phishing examples. Recently, I got this notification from a friend of mine and wanted to pass the information along to you.

If you have a VISA card, please be careful with the information you give out over the phone when someone calls you claiming they work for VISA and that they are conducting a fraud inspection.  This current scam is very sneaky and would be tough to recognize if you aren’t aware of it. Visit the following link so that you can protect yourselves and your business.

AS A MATTER OF FACT

In the beginning there was March Madness…

To be honest, I don’t watch college basketball that much since my alma mater’s basketball team isn’t the caliber of its football team (War Eagle!), but tend to enjoy watching the final four at a sports bar. There is just something about how crazy the people get that makes the game more enjoyable to watch. With the advent of March Madness Division III basketball in full swing and the Division II playoffs right around the corner I have to wonder where the nickname of March Madness came from originally.

As it turns out, the term “March Madness” was invented in 1939 and referred to the title of a manifesto written by Henry Porter in the Illinois Interscholastic, a publication of the Illinois High School Association.  Henry was describing the evangelical following of rabid high school basketball fans who gathered annually to watch over 900 schools from all over the state compete for the glory to be Number One.

March Madness was not applied to the NCAA collegiate tournament series until the 1980’s when CBS sportscaster Brent Musberger borrowed it from his past experiences working as a sportscaster in Chicago. Today this craze has probably been nurtured exponentially by the incredible amount of sports betting that goes on behind the scenes. It’s probably also safe to say that this term will live on well into the future.

So whether you want to follow the NCAA tournament or not, EBSCO offers a plethora of magazines for just about every sport under the sun. Check out the Sports and Outdoors Magazine Category to get some of the best prices on titles like Sports Illustrated , ESPN Magazine, Sporting News, and Sports Weekly.
