Where did Business Week go?

If you hadn’t already noticed, BusinessWeek magazine has been missing from our online catalog for over a year now.  In an effort to provide you with the best price we constantly negotiate with the publishers to get special reception room rates. Unfortunately, we can lose our special rates on certain titles for one reason or another, so if the price isn’t much better than the cover price, we remove it from our online catalog.

When consolidating your other magazine subscriptions, this is one reason why it is important to ask if we have a title you cannot find on the website, more than likely we still carry it, but may not be promoting it at that very moment.

YEAR END SURVEY EXTENDED OFFER

ExecutiveScissorSetThe 2006 Year End Survey Promotion has been extended until January 31, 2007. Please tell us what you think of our new website and email newsletter.

Upon completion of your survey, you will automatically get a promotional code, plus have an opportunity to get this complimentary gift when you take five minutes of your time to give us your opinion.

America minus Nigerian oil equals recession?

The February 2007 issue of Vanity Fair has gone deep inside the underground world of Islamic militants in Africa to bring back a story of how losing the oil supply from Nigeria could potentially severely weaken the American economy.

The article states that it wouldn’t take much…one cold winter + loss of Nigerian oil + terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia and America could be looking at $120 a barrel. This is somewhat disconcerting when considering that the Middle East is already a hotbed of problems waiting to happen.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

UltimateMarketingPlanBusiness and Marketing Books

Need a great book with practical and time tested marketing ideas for your small business?

Check out Dan Kennedy’s – The Ultimate Marketing Plan. Dan is a marketing consultant who specializes in helping small businesses like doctors, dentists, real estate agents, and others find the best way to market their livelihood in competitive markets. This book is packed with real life examples you can easily replicate for yourself…I have read it twice and highly recommend it.

AS A MATTER OF FACT

How will people find you?

iphone_opportunity I was perusing our shelves of magazine replacement copies and found a copy of the latest MacWorld magazine. I guess it stuck out in my mind because of the release of the new iPhone from Apple. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is definitely a cell phone user’s dream, especially with its top notch web browsing and email software.

While checking out the other features I came across the Maps module. I thought to myself, this phone is going to be a dream come true for businesses throughout America.  If you watch the quick presentation, you will see that it uses Google Maps to show the street location of just about any destination you can think of…so are you there?

See the Maps feature at the following link:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/internet/

If not, you may want to make sure that at least your business is…this new Apple iPhone is going to change the way other phones display information. Within the next five years, I'd be willing to bet that there will be at least 15 other copycat phones that offer the same tool as this Maps feature.

So please do yourself a favor and make sure your business location(s) are in the Google Maps system. Since Google’s unspoken quest is to be the ultimate purveyor all human knowledge, they do not charge you to add your information into their Google Maps system.

Go here to try Google Maps

Go here and add your business address to Google Maps today – it will be a less than 5 minute no-cost investment that will pay you in the future, especially when prospective customers start using tools like the iPhone to find you when they are lost.  Want to track your time investment, you may want to consider using the coupon feature to add a special Google Maps-only incentive that customers can use offline.

How do I know this? I read…a lot! I love books about marketing, Internet trends, and magazines like Wired, Business 2.0, PC MagazinePopular Science, Make, Time, Scientific American, and ID . I will try to pass along these tidbits of marketing information from now on, but I think it would be realistic to say that I won’t catch everything that could help your business. So check out a few of the magazines I listed above, there is no telling when one of these titles will spark your marketing creativity. For other options, check out our Technology, Computers, and Internet magazines category.
