DISCONTINUED MAGAZINE

Death of an Old Friend

According to the New York Times the history magazine title American Heritage is suspending their print edition. American Heritage was started in 1954 and was originally designed for hard-core history buffs. The ironic part of this whole story is that American Heritage started out with no ads and made an effort to cover all costs with circulation alone up until 1982.

Today circulation is at an all time high, but the recent lack of interested advertisers has warranted a suspension of printed version. They will however, continue to keep the website updated each month for dedicated readers.

RIP American Heritage – 1954-2007

Child Magazine - DISCONTINUED

Child Magazine DiscontinuedChild magazine was also discontinued at the end of March. According to our sources it was due to a lack of interested advertisers, but was probably overshadowed by the strong release of Cookie Magazine a new Parenting magazine from Conde Nast.

If you have either of these titles, please login, then submit a cancellation (under the Your Account area), and we will take care of the refund procedures for you.

Spring
 Gardens

I’m going to be honest here and say I have never cracked open a copy of House & Garden before today. Wow! I will definitely need to flog myself for being a creature of habit in the past.

Having a background in Industrial Design, I was impressed with the quality of content and layout this magazine provided.  House & Garden is well written and the photos of house and garden accents were very inspiring.  My personal renewal date is coming up and I think I will be adding this title to my new monthly reading list.

WEBSITE TIPS

How do I delete subscriptions from my renewal?

Ah, I tend to get this question a lot…we are working on a better solution, but in the meantime here is what you will need to do. Essentially, you can view your renewals in two modes; View by all addresses and View by Individual Address.  When you initially come to the Renew My Subscriptions page from the Your Account page you are placed on View by all Addresses page.

View Individual Address

To delete subscriptions from your renewal list, you need to click the red “View renewals by individual address” button found to the left of the red Add to Cart button (above your renewal list). This will switch modes and you will see a third button appear on the far right of the next page. Check the boxes of the magazines you want to delete, the click the red Remove Selected Renewals button.

Remove Selected Renewals

If you have more than one address that have other magazines you want to delete, go up to the address box above the renewal list and switch the address with the drop down box. Repeat the same instructions from the last paragraph.

Change Address Drop Down

Once finished you can either click Add to Cart for each address or switch back to View renewals by all addresses page, click Add to Cart to do the whole multiple address list at once. Complete your renewal order by going to Checkout.

AS A MATTER A FACT

Monster Pig

I’m not a hunter, but wanted to share this weird tidbit from my neck of the woods.  Being a History, National Geographic, and Discovery Channel junkie that I am, I once saw a show I believe was called “Is It Real.” The episode I saw was about “Hogzilla” a fabled gigantic feral pig shot and killed just south of Atlanta. Proof was limited and all that was left was a photograph and a grave.

The National Geographic team had the remains exhumed and determined that it really was about 800 lbs and verified that it truly was a real wild boar. As fate would have it, on May 3, 2007 near Anniston, Alabama an 11 year old boy took a three hour adventure and one-upped Hogzilla.

Jamison Stone caught himself a trophy of a lifetime.  It took 16 bullets and one square mile to bring down this freak of nature. The wild boar he bagged was 10 feet 7 inches long and 1,051 pounds!

I don’t know what it is about the South, but it must be something in the water. The funny part is that may not be too far from the truth…Anniston, AL is home to one of the largest Chemical/Biological weapons disposal plants in the United States. I live only one hour’s drive from where this happened so who knows, if I see our fish glowing or growing arms I’ll be sure to let you know.

National Geographic will probably want to do a follow-up story on this beast, and I am pretty sure that all the details will eventually end up in their official magazine . This animal is a zoologist’s dream come true and will more than likely end up in the Guinness Book of World Records.  Of course we can’t forget the hunters out there…although, I don’t think there is a “Boar season.” That doesn’t mean you can’t always stay on top or your game with a few hunting related magazines.

Happy Memorial Day!
