In our last newsletter issue #76, we listed some of the new website upgrades which included some major additions to our Renewal Screen. We had a few customers request some clarity on the Renew Later and Cancel check boxes for each line item.

The Renew Later check box is basically like a snooze button on an alarm clock, you get reminded again 3 months from the expire date. If you do it again at the 3 month mark it will remind you again in 30 days.

The Cancel check box means that you would NOT like to renew the subscription once it expires. It does not cancel the subscription immediately. If you would like to cancel the subscription immediately, leave the magazines you want to cancel immediately on the list. Then go to the Cancel A Subscription page to have them removed.

It seems that the current economic environment is not very good for the magazine industry. As of January 2009, Domino Magazine will no longer be in print. If you have a subscription through EBSCO to Domino and would like a refund on all your remaining unmailed issues contact us here.

Please be aware that the publishers of US News and World Report have made changes to their subscription frequency. US News and World Report has gone from weekly, to bi-weekly, and as of December 15th 2008, it is now a monthly subscription. The next issue you will recieve (if you have a current subscription) will show as February 2009.

It looks like the economy is hitting the magazine industry pretty hard. Although in the case of Cosmo Girl, the Internet may have more to do with its demise. It’s becoming more and more difficult to serve a print magazine to a ever expanding wired audience. Why buy the print magazine when you can easily get the same information on your new 3G iPhone?

Conde Nast has discontinued Golf for Women magazine. The news on the grapevine is that the editor for Golf for Women was hired over at Hearst to head up O : The Oprah Magazine.

No worries though…we still carry several other golf titles if you need a replacement.

I made two mistakes on Newsletter #64 last week.

Consumer Reports Money Adviser was written as having a price of $39.95. That was incorrect; our website lists it as $29.00 which is the correct price.

It seems my luck was doubly bad, when I also misspelled Adviser as Advisor. I apologize…not sure why I missed these problems when reviewing before release.

The announcement was made at SXSW, and it looks like Harp Magazine has folded. For those of you who were not familiar with this publication it was a monthly magazine covering indie-alternative rock music and bands. According to Country Standard Time website there is a parent company bankruptcy involved in the situation.

Attention all customers who have New York magazine in your waiting areas.

If you have children that sit in the waiting area, then it would probably be a good idea NOT to put out the newest New York magazine (2-25-08 issue) for public viewing. Lindsay Lohan is wearing practically nothing and the pictures are dangerously revealing.

I guess they want to sell more to the male demographic…that’s one way to do it.

You buy all these great magazines, but it seems you never have the time to relax and catch the articles that you really would enjoy. On the other hand, how many times have you gotten half way through an article and said “This article is terrible…I want my 15 minutes back!”

There is a website out there that can help you compress your reading time. It will also allow you to focus on articles that will be truly valuable to you. Check out brijit.com.

They also rate the article so you don’t get sucked in by a great headline, then trudge through mindless dribble.
